Joel Monaghan scored twice as the Warrington Wolves upset St Helens 41-24 to close out the Super League ‘Magic Weekend’ at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

St Helens missed the chance to move back to the top of the table after former Canberra Raider Monaghan starred while Rhys Evans also scored twice as the Wire ran in eight tries.

Runners-up in the last two consecutive grand finals, the Wolves have struggled for consistency this season but they did the damage at the start of each half.

Lance Hohaia was one of four try-scorers for Saints as they stayed second in the overall table.

Earlier on Sunday, Huddersfield demolished Bradford 54-16 to extend their winning league run to five games.

The Bulls led 10-6 midway through the first half but the Giants, who won the 2013 League Leaders Shield, ran in nine tries in all to claim a comfortable victory.

Stand-off Danny Brough kicked all nine conversions in addition to his own try.

Meanwhile Castleford kept up the pressure on the top three with a 50-12 victory over Wakefield.

Daryl Clark opened and closed the scoring for the Tigers while Justin Carney bagged a double as well for Castleford.

In Saturday’s final clash, defending champions Wigan beat Leeds 18-14 to end the Rhinos’ run of seven wins on the bounce.

Saturday also saw Hull KR gain a measure of revenge for last year’s last-gasp Magic Weekend defeat by beating Hull FC 38-24 in a feisty derby encounter.

In-form Widnes overcame Salford 30-24 in a topsy-turvy clash to claim their first Magic Weekend victory.

Catalan Dragons just about edged out a still-winless London Broncos 24-22 in the opening match of this season’s Magic Weekend, where all the Super League clubs play at the same venue over the course of 48 hours.
