Hussey brothers battle in IPL elimination

In a battle of the brothers, David Hussey has come out ahead of Michael as he helped Chennai Super Kings to a seven-wicket win over the Mumbai Indians in an IPL elimination match.

After Chennai won the toss and sent Mumbai in to bat, Michael Hussey and Lendl Simmons made a slow start, creeping up to 23 runs in the first four overs before letting loose.

The pair put on 76 together until a Ravindra Jadeja ball snuck under Hussey’s bat and onto the stumps, ending his 33-ball innings for a total of 39.

Simmons went on to notch up the game’s top score of 67 off 44.

Set a target of 173, Chennai’s openers were quick to offer a strong reply, as Dwayne Smith (24) and Faf du Plessis (35) dominated Mumbai’s pace attack.

With 42 runs needed from the last 30 balls, David Hussey along with Suresh Raina were up to the task, taking 20 runs off the 16th over.

Man-of-the-match Raina brought up his half-century in the 18th over, and finished the game with a four to bring his innings to 54 off 33, while David Hussey finished not out with 40 off 29.

The loss brought defending champions Mumbai’s season to a close, while Chennai goes on to face Kings XI Punjab in the second qualifying match.
