Sydney Roosters vs Newcastle Knights 2014 NRL Round 14 preview, tips, odds and teams

The Roosters travelled to Melbourne last week to take on a depleted Storm side and as expected, ran out comfortable victors 32 – 12.

It was the Roosters sixth win from their past seven outings with all bar one of the victories being by 13+.

Earlier in the year it was expected that last year’s Premiers would be hit hard by the Origin series but with only three players selected in the two sides, the Roosters have been able to build on some good form over the past month after what was a poor start to the season.

With the Roosters forwards dominating, it has allowed Sonny Bill Williams to run a little wider off of the ruck and create plenty of problems for opposing defences.

He crossed for his third try in as many matches last week and was one of five individual try-scorers for the Roosters.

Mitch Aubosson comes into the centres for Jennings who’ll be Origin camp, and has an uncanny knack of scoring for the Roosters whilst Dylan Napa comes into the forwards for Guerra in what is a very strong looking pack.

The Knights were rated a chance of winning only their third game of the season last week against the Tigers but ended up on the wrong side of 23 – 20 score-line.

It was the Knights’ sixth loss in a row and their third in the last five weeks by an agonising four points or less.

It highlights that the Knights are struggling to close out games at the moment and that comes from a lack of confidence after what has been a disastrous year both on and off the pitch.

Things will not get any easier for them this week as the travel away to take on the very much inform Roosters minus Darius Boyd and Beau Scott who will be on representative duties.

Also missing will be Kade Snowden (suspension) and Joey Leilua (injured).

For a team struggling to find form, the last they need is several changes to their line-up.

HEAD TO HEAD

The Roosters have defeated the Knights on each of the three occasions the two sides have met over the past two years by margins of 18, 16 and 26 points.

It’s hard to see the Roosters at least not equal, if not exceed, those margins here with the Knights in a desperately hopeless position at the minute.

The Roosters to cover the -12.5 line looks almost a given on recent stats and for some value, the Roosters 11 – 20 @ $3.75 or 21 – 30 @ $5.50 might be worth consideration.
