Defending champion Andy Murray has reached the Wimbledon last 16 with a 6-2 6-3 6-2 win over Spanish 27th seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

In what will be his eighth appearance in the fourth round in nine years, Murray will face South African 20th seed Kevin Anderson for a place in the quarter-finals.

Anderson became the first South African man to reach the Wimbledon fourth round for 14 years with a 4-6 6-4 2-6 6-2 6-1 victory over Italian 16th seed Fabio Fognini.

Murray has made the last 16 for the loss of just 19 games, beating his previous Wimbledon best of 26 games conceded in 2010.

“I responded well, it’s been a good first week,” said Murray.

“I had plenty of long matches at the French Open to get me physically ready for this.”

On facing Anderson, the 27-year-old Murray added: “He’s a big guy with a big game and playing some of the best tennis of his career.

“I will need to be sharp to face him.”
