Eels skipper Mannah set for shoulder scans

Parramatta co-captain Tim Mannah will head for scans on Monday after injuring his shoulder in a tackle from Newcastle hard-man Jeremy Smith which may be looked at by the NRL match review committee.

In the first set of the game won 16-10 by Newcastle, Mannah was bent back in an awkward incident which appeared similar to the wrestling moves the NRL has cracked down on in recent years.

Mannah looked far from impressed on the field when he finally got to his feet after writhing on the ground in pain.

He needed an injection at halftime in order to keep playing but post match the prop said his shoulder was in severe pain.

Mannah refused to comment on whether he thought the match review committee should look at the tackle, but he admitted the position his body was put in “didn’t feel right.”

“It was a very awkward position and it didn’t feel right in the tackle,” Mannah said.

“Hopefully scans give a best case scenario.

“I got in an awkward position and got yanked back. It definitely felt like an uncomfortable position but it happens in footy, it’s one of those things you can’t control.”

The only player put on report in the match was Parramatta prop Junior Paulo for a second half high shot.

Parramatta can ill-afford to lose Mannah for an extended period having already had key forwards Nathan Peats and Manu Ma’u sidelined in recent weeks.

The Eels have the bye this week and then face a tough road trip to Auckland to face the Warriors before taking on South Sydney at home.

Parramatta also face Manly and Canterbury on their road to the finals and after a brilliant start, the exciting underdogs are finally feeling the pinch in the 10th place on the ladder.

Mannah says his young side needs to stay patient.

“We’re not going into panic stations that’s for sure,” he said.

“Today was one we could have come away with but we’re a young side and need to make sure we get more experienced to play better at times.”
