FIFA refuses clubs demand for more WC cash

FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke says he won’t increase a $US70-million ($A65.1 million) payment to clubs who are demanding a bigger share of 2014 World Cup revenues.

Valcke says the 200-member European Club Association (ECA) “want more money for 2014 and we say ‘no, we have a current agreement'” for $US70 million.

The ECA wants FIFA to follow European football body UEFA, which has offered clubs a bigger slice of European Championship profits.

Clubs worldwide had been promised 55 million euros ($A68.1 million) for letting players go to Euro 2012.

The ECA announced this week that UEFA had “substantially increased” that amount as part of a new accord.

FIFA and UEFA distribute money per a daily rate for as long as players are involved in their tournaments.
