West Brom contract is Hodgson’s hot topic

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson expects talks to “hot up” over a new contract now the season is close to its conclusion.

Hodgson’s current deal runs out this summer, although he has often indicated that he is happy at The Hawthorns.

It is understood initial talks have taken place between the club and Hodgson’s adviser. However, the former Liverpool manager wants assurances that Albion will not be battling for English Premier League survival every season.

Asked about a new contract, Hodgson said: “I’ve talked about it lots of times. We’ve broached the subject over a long period of time.

“As we reach the end of the season, I’m sure the talks will hot up between the club and my adviser and we will see where that takes us.

“I have said on many occasions I like the club, like the people and am enjoying myself.

“However if I’m going to continue working here year after year, I want to do it at the level I feel I should be working at, which is the Premier League.”

Hodgson joined the Baggies 15 months ago after being sacked by Liverpool and steered them clear of relegation last season. They are currently eight points above the bottom three.
