St Kilda say they will not change their name if they play AFL premiership matches in New Zealand.
However the club admitted on Saturday it could use the name `Saints’ to promote matches there.
St Kilda is keen to play across the Tasman at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
New Zealand’s Dominion Post newspaper claims the club is considering changing its name to the “Saints Wellington” for games played in the country.
But St Kilda’s chief executive Michael Nettlefold said on Saturday there would be no name change.
“The St Kilda football club will not be changing its name,” Nettlefold said.
“The football club has been St Kilda and the Saints for the past 139 years, and there are no plans to change the name.
“St Kilda may consider using the ‘Saints’ name to promote the club when playing in Wellington, New Zealand.”
