The fallout over the Will Minson abuse controversy might help the Western Bulldogs crash the Brisbane Lions’ biggest party on Saturday, Josh Drummond says.
The Lions’ inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Melbourne on Saturday night – and Drummond said the side wanted to precede it with a win to honour the historic event.
But key Lion Drummond fears the Bulldogs will also show plenty of pride in their jumper at Etihad Stadium following Minson’s one-week ban for comments made to Port Adelaide’s Danyle Pearce.
“I don’t think it will affect them at all,” he said of the Bulldogs.
“Obviously, he (Minson) got a week’s suspension so someone else has to come in but they have been going around with a really good attitude.
“If anything, it might steel them.”
However, Drummond said the Lions would not be short of motivation.
Two “legends” and 15 inductees will be announced at the club’s first Hall of Fame night, honouring their greatest players, coaches and administrators spanning 126 years.
Lions chairman Angus Johnson this week described it as “the most historic and important night in the history of our club”.
The team will wear a special Hall of Fame-inspired heritage guernsey for the match.
“I don’t think we need too much extra motivation but it is definitely a big weekend for the club honouring the tradition and history,” Drummond said.
“We will definitely be going down there and wanting to put in a good performance and celebrate that.”
Veteran midfielder Simon Black (knee) looks set to be available after three weeks on the sidelines.
