Harrison in doubt for Origin III

Scans will determine Queensland lock Ashley Harrison’s availability for State of Origin III after he was forced from the field with a toe injury on Friday night.

Harrison failed to return for the second half of Gold Coast’s 8-6 NRL loss to St George Illawarra in Wollongong and is now racing the clock to be fit for the series decider on July 4.

The tackling machine will have scans on Saturday, though the results may not be known until Monday ahead of the Queensland team being named the following day.

Asked about the severity of the injury, Titans coach Johns Cartwright offered: “We don’t know, it was bad enough for him not to come back on.”

The Maroons had reportedly already been considering tinkering with their forward rotation for game three, while fullback Billy Slater is set to be named but is highly unlikely to play due to a knee injury.
