Geelong have ruled out captain Joel Selwood for the AFL clash against top side Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium.

Selwood was knocked out in the opening minute of last weekend’s win over Fremantle.

Sam Simpson will take Selwood’s place and make his AFL debut on Saturday night, two days after the Cats elevated the father-son recruit from their rookie list.

GWS have also suffered a late blow, with Toby Greene a last-minute scratching because of an ankle injury.

Greene hurt himself at the Giants’ training session on Friday but the club was initially optimistic he would be fit for the top-four showdown.

Daniel Lloyd has been added to GWS’s team in the absence of Greene, who was part of the league’s All-Australian team in 2016.
