Shuey and Hill to return for Eagles in AFL

West Coast will receive a timely double-boost for Sunday’s AFL encounter with Brisbane at Patersons Stadium, with forward Josh Hill and star midfielder Luke Shuey to return to the side.

Hill (hamstring) and Shuey (suspension) were forced to watch on from the sidelines as the Eagles slumped to heavy defeats at the hands of Sydney (52 points) and Adelaide (49) over the past fortnight.

Their returns come at an important time for West Coast, who face a tough task to secure a top-four spot after slipping one game adrift of fourth-placed Collingwood.

Shuey has been suspended twice this season – both for undisciplined acts – but coach John Worsfold was confident the 22-year-old wouldn’t reoffend in the same manner.

“I hope he learnt that you take responsibility for your actions and you’ll pay a price if you’re undisciplined,” Worsfold said.

“I’m sure he’s learnt that lesson.

“He was disappointed that he got suspended. There’s no doubt about that.”

Winger Andrew Embley is a chance to return via WAFL ranks this weekend after recovering from shoulder surgery, while power forward Josh Kennedy (ankle) is on track to rejoin the main group at training in coming weeks.

West Coast’s midfielders were shown up by Adelaide and Sydney, with the Crows booting 12 goals from stoppages and Sydney 10.

The return of Shuey should help address some of those issues, and Worsfold hoped to see a different outcome against Brisbane.

“Around scoring from stoppages, we’ve leaked way too many goals, but we’re confident we can address that fairly quickly with what we do,” Worsfold said.

“It’s the way we all set up and our attitude around those contests. Forwards and backs are included in that a lot of the time.”

The Lions defeated West Coast by two points at the Gabba in round 10, but face a tough task to knock off the Eagles on their home patch.
