Star sprinter Redzel headlines the nominations for the Group One Lightning Stakes which have been extended.
Unbeaten this season with his wins including the $10 million Everest and Group One Darley Classic, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Redzel is among 13 nominations taken on Monday for Saturday’s 1000m weight-for-age Lightning at Flemington.
Another five Group One winners feature in the nominations including defending champion Terravista who was a fast-finishing second to Redzel in the Darley Classic last spring.
Sydney trainer Joe Pride also has Terravista’s Group Two-winning half-brother Ball Of Muscle set for the Lightning.
Last year’s Newmarket Handicap winner Redkirk Warrior will run first-up while the Lindsay Park stable have also put in nominations for Catchy, Formality and Sheidel.
Dual Group One winner Hey Doc is scheduled to make his return.
Redzel showed he was on target for the Lightning with an impressive barrier trial win in Sydney last week and the five-year-old gelding is unbeaten in two starts at Flemington.
Nominations have been extended until Tuesday morning.
There are three other stakes races on the program with the Group Three C S Hayes Stakes (1400m) for three-year-old colts and geldings attracting 20 nominations while the Group Three The Vanity (1400m) for fillies has 19.
Seventeen two-year-olds have been nominated for the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m).
Group One-winning New Zealand colt Embellish features among the C S Hayes Stakes nominations while Group One Thousand Guineas winner Aloisia headlines entries for The Vanity.
