Cox will face AFL scrutiny for high elbow

Mason Cox was poor with his hands and even worse with his right elbow in Collingwood’s AFL loss to Hawthorn.

The Magpies key forward took no marks against the Hawks and coach Nathan Buckley declared he had a bad night.

The American’s heavy contact with Daniel Howe means Cox also faces a nervous wait on Monday for the match review findings.

He caught Howe high with his elbow in the third quarter and is in trouble.

His poor game was a surprise, given Cox had enjoyed a solid pre-season.

“The challenge for him is to make it a bad night and not a normal occurrence and I am pretty confident that he will do some damage,” said Buckley.

Adelaide onballer Richard Douglas is already facing a one-game suspension for his heavy bump on Essendon star Zach Merrett.

The bump concussed Merrett and he did not return to the ground on Friday night at Etihad Stadium.

Unless Douglas successfully challenges his rough conduct charge at the tribunal, he will miss Thursday night’s grand final rematch against Richmond at Adelaide Oval.
