Surgery deferred for Titans NRL prop Boyle

Fears that Gold Coast prop Morgan Boyle’s NRL season could be over have been eased after a visit to a specialist.

The 21-year-old has been playing through pain this year after dislocating his shoulder in pre-season and is yet to miss a game.

But “instability” in the joint during Saturday’s loss to Cronulla prompted coach Garth Brennan to yank him from the Titans’ team for their clash with Canberra at GIO Stadium, out of concern for his long-term welfare.

After a full medical assessment on his shoulder, the prognosis was as good as Boyle could have hoped for.

Instead of going under the knife and missing the remainder of the season, he was given the all clear on Wednesday to defer the surgery until the end of the year.

It means Boyle is likely to be back and playing again in two weeks, when the Titans host Newcastle at Robina.

Gold Coast are 12th on the ladder with three wins from eight.
