Mtawarira to join 100 club against England

Tendai Mtawarira will win his 100th cap when South Africa look to take an unassailable lead in their Test series against England in Bloemfontein.

Mtawarira, known throughout the sport as Beast, becomes only the sixth Springbok to amass a century of appearances and the first prop from his nation to reach the milestone having made his debut a decade ago.

“Much like a typical front-rower, Beast is not someone who likes the spotlight,” South Africa boss Rassie Erasmus said.

“However, his contribution to Springbok rugby during the past decade has been enormous and I want to congratulate him on reaching 100 Test caps for South Africa.

“It’s a special achievement and while he deserves the accolades, I know he’ll be totally focused on the most important job and that’s to face an extremely determined England side on Saturday.”

On the other side of the scrum, Frans Malherbe returns at tighthead after a lengthy battle with a neck injury, while the second change to the team that prevailed 42-39 in the first Test sees Pieter-Steph du Toit picked ahead of Jean-Luc du Preez at openside.

“England are a powerful side and I know Eddie Jones will have his team super prepared for Saturday,” Erasmus added.

“They will no doubt want to bounce back to level the series, so it’s going to be another huge Test of our resolve and character.”
