Inglis out of Origin III with broken thumb

Queensland’s hopes of avoiding a State of Origin series whitewash have received a hammer blow after captain Greg Inglis was ruled out of July 11’s dead rubber with a broken thumb.

The Maroons delayed their scheduled Sunday night game three team announcement until Monday after Inglis went down in South Sydney’s 21-20 NRL win over North Queensland in Cairns.

The Maroons were already reeling from news on Sunday that bench utility Kalyn Ponga (hamstring) would miss Origin III while prop Dylan Napa (knee) is also battling injury.
