Tuivasa-Sheck wins Warriors player award

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has been been crowed Warriors player of the year for a second straight NRL season.

The Warriors captain and fullback became the inaugural winner of the Simon Mannering Medal, renamed at the awards dinner on Sunday night in honour of the retiring club legend.

Tuivasa-Sheck is the fourth player to win the accolade more than once.

Mannering, who made his 300th club appearance in Friday’s win over Canberra, has won it five times.

Former props Steve Price and Ben Matulino were two-time winners.

Kiwis international Tuivasa-Sheck has been imperious with his running game, clocking up the fourth-most metres in the competition (4058m), including a peerless 1330m from kick returns.

That form his lifted him into contention to be the first Warriors player to win the Dally M Award.

Other nominees for the top Warriors prize were forwards Agnatius Paasi, Issac Luke and Jazz Tevaga, and winger Ken Maumalo.

Second-rower Isaiah Papali’i was named rookie of the year.

The eighth-ranked Warriors have reached the NRL final for the first time since 2011.

During the dinner, they learned their first-up opponents will be fifth-ranked Penrith in Sydney on Saturday.
