Dockers bid for AFL free agent Pearce

Fremantle have lodged a bid for Port Adelaide midfield speedster Danyle Pearce under the AFL’s free agency provisions.

The 26-year-old is a restricted free agent, meaning the Power have 72 hours to match the Dockers’ offer.

Pearce, who was named the AFL’s Rising Star in 2006, his second season, has played 154 games for the Power, including 20 this year.

The Dockers said in a statement on Monday – the opening day of the AFL’s first free agency period – that they had lodged documentation with the AFL.

It makes Pearce the first player to be the subject of an official bid under free agency.

Essendon were also expected to lodge their bid for St Kilda star Brendon Goddard on Monday.

Goddard is also a restricted free agent, meaning the Saints will also have 72 hours to match the Bombers’ offer, if they can.

Pearce is not the only Power player looking for a move, with Troy Chaplin, Steven Salopek and Jacob Surjan also exploring their options.
