Tomic crashes out at Surbiton grass event

Bernard Tomic’s Wimbledon preparations have been dealt a blow after he was sent crashing out of the Surbiton International grass court event in south-west London by Spain’s Marcel Granollers.

The Australian was seeded seventh for the tournament, which is on the Challenger Tour, but went down 7-6 (14-12) 6-3 in the pair’s second-round clash.

There was also disappointment for Andrew Bolt who lost to Britain’s Dan Evans.

However, second-seeded West Australian Matt Ebden eased into the quarter-finals with victory over Serbia’s Lukas 7-5 7-4 (7-4).

Ebden will now face Romania’s Marius Copil for a spot in the semi-final, the stage he reached last year before losing out to eventual finalist Alex de Minaur.
