Millman too strong for debutant Dellien

John Millman has brushed aside Wimbledon debutant Hugo Dellien to ease his way into the second round.

Last year’s US Open quarter-finalist cruised past the Bolivian world No.83 6-2 6-3 6-4 in an hour and 40 minutes.

Roared on by a strong Australian contingent watching on Court Seven, the Queenslander, who beat Roger Federer on his way to the last eight in New York last September, was simply too strong for the world No.83.

The 30-year-old now has a decent opportunity to book a third-round spot for only the second time at the All England Club when he faces Serbian 31st seed Laslo Djere or Argentina’s Guido Andreozzi on Thursday.

In a comfortable display, Millman held serve throughout and broke Dellien four times on his way to victory.

But Matt Ebden’s campaign is over after the West Australian lost to in-form Diego Schwartzman in four sets.

Ebden reached the third round 12 months ago, his best performance at a grand slam but had no answer to the outstanding return game of the diminutive 24th-seeded Argentine – a quarter-finalist at Queen’s Club two weeks ago.

The 1.7 metre baseliner prevailed 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-2 to tee up a second-round clash against German wildcard Dominik Koepfer.
