Collingwood’s injury crisis hasn’t resolved, but they are back in the winner’s circle with a 69-point win against the lowly Suns last time out. The Pies have since lost big man Mason Cox to a freak eye injury and won’t be taking the 17th placed Demons lightly when the pair meet at the MCG.
Melbourne has lost four games in a row and clearly has an eye to 2020 after a miserable season where they have won just five games. They were outplayed in the second half of last round’s match against Richmond, losing by 33 points and scoring just three second half goals.
In their Queens Birthday match in round 12 this season, the Pies were victorious by 41 points, leading at every change in a dominant performance. Collingwood’s forward line will be the focus on Saturday, with the Pies lacking tall forwards.
Neither of these sides have been handy against the spread, with Melbourne a league-worst 5-14 at covering the line this season. Collingwood aren’t much better at 7-12.
The Wolf can’t back the Dees in current form, but the Pies don’t have the cattle to blow them off the park, so a narrow Collingwood win looks the way to go.
