Farah to get scans after NRL knee injury

Wests Tigers veteran Robbie Farah will go for scans on his knee as his NRL farewell hangs in the balance after being injured against Canterbury.

Farah went down three times in Saturday night’s opening 25 minutes with an injured right knee, before eventually succumbing and limping from the field.

There were initial suggestions the retiring hooker might have suffered a medial ligament injury, usually resulting in anywhere from one week to six on the sidelines.

Former Tigers teammate Chris Heighington also said in ABC radio commentary that the club had indicated to him the problem was meniscus-related.

There are four rounds remaining in the NRL season for the Tigers after Saturday’s clash, with the joint venture in the hunt for the finals.

Farah was initially hurt in the 13th minute when he became tangled in a tackle with Bulldogs half Lachlan Lewis.

He stayed on the ground for more than a minute as medical staff ran out to assess him, but he remained on the ANZ Stadium field.

Battling for power out of dummy-half, Farah sought attention again moments later, as he again went to ground and required strapping.

The 35-year-old eventually left the field in the 24th minute when he went down again as he continued to struggle out of dummy-half.

The former NSW State of Origin hooker has already announced he will retire at the end of the season, with the Tigers’ last-round game at Leichhardt Oval already close to a sellout.

His injury came after captain Moses Mbye had earlier been ruled out of the game with a groin injury, limping from the field in the eighth minute.
