Injury blow for Vic spin star Holland

Victoria’s spin-bowling Test prospect Jon Holland is to undergo further scans on a shoulder injury that has ruled him out of the Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania starting on Tuesday.

The left-arm finger spinner injured his bowling shoulder throwing from the outfield while playing club cricket at the weekend.

Preliminary scans suggested he’d aggravated an injury that required reconstructive surgery in early 2010.

Holland was to have a full scan on Monday but was certain to miss the shield match at the MCG.

Last week Australian selector John Inverarity named Holland alongside incumbent Nathan Lyon as Australia’s top two Test spinning options.

Bushrangers skipper Cameron White said the injury was a blow for his 25-year-old teammate.

“It’s very disappointing not just for Jon but for the group,” White said.

“He’s one of the most popular members of our squad so hopefully there will be some positive outcome out of the scan this afternoon.”

Holland was due to debut for Australia in the last match of the one-day international tour of India three years ago but missed out due to the match being washed out.
