Eels-Broncos final sells out in three days

Sunday’s elimination final between Parramatta and Brisbane at Bankwest Stadium has become the fastest Sydney final to sell out in almost a decade.

The NRL confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the final tickets had been snapped up for the match at the 30,000-seat stadium, just three days after going on sale.

It eclipses the speed of last year’s effort at Allianz Stadium between South Sydney and the Sydney Roosters in the preliminary final, which sold out on match-eve.

It makes Sunday’s clash the quickest to sell out in Sydney since thousands were left out of Kogarah for St George Illawarra’s 28-0 flogging of Manly in 2010.

It’s also anticipated Sunday’s crowd could set a new record for the western-Sydney stadium, and eclipse the 29,047 that turned up on opening day for the Eels and Wests Tigers.

“To have our first ever finals series match at the new Bankwest Stadium sell out in three days is a fantastic result,” NRL chief commercial officer Andrew Abdo said.

“Eels fans are well behind their team but we have also seen strong interest from Brisbane as well.”

There remains a chance that Manly’s home final against Cronulla could also sell out at Lottoland, with all reserve seating snapped up.

A significant number of spots remain on the Brookvale hill, but tickets did not go on sale until Tuesday for that elimination final following the asbestos concerns at the ground.

Meanwhile it’s understood a crowd of around 30,000 is expected for the Roosters and Rabbitohs on Friday night, with 20,000 the predicted figure for Melbourne and Canberra at AAMI Park on Saturday.
