De Minaur to play for third career title

Alex de Minaur is eyeing a third career ATP Tour title after setting up a showdown with French veteran Adrian Mannarino in the Zhuhai Championships final in China.

The 20-year-old Australian was impressive in ousting Wimbledon semi-finalist Roberto Bautista Agut in their semi-final, winning 6-2 6-2 on Saturday night.

World No.10 Bautista Agut was looking to maintain his push for a place in the season-ending World Tour Championships, currently seventh in the race to reach London.

But the Spaniard could not match his 31-ranked opponent who is now aiming to add to the titles he won in Sydney and Atlanta earlier in the year.

“I’ve shown it today, I’ve got this level, the level I brought today,” de Minaur said.

“If I can try to bring this level almost every week, then I’ll be going deep in tournaments and beating these top guys and pushing for titles.”

Mannarino, the world No.61, had earlier seen off Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets, coming through 6-0 4-6 6-1 in just over two hours on court.

“Conditions are really humid here and it was really physical, but I was able to stay really concentrated,” the 31-year-old Mannarino said.

“Even if I lost the second set, I stayed consistent with a lot of energy in the third set.

Meanwhile, Alexander Bublik and Pablo Carreno-Busta will contest the final of the Chengdu Open.

Kazakhstan’s Bublik, who knocked out Grigor Dimitrov in the last round, ended the run of South African lucky loser Lloyd Harris with a 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 win.

Spaniard Carreno-Busta, meanwhile, defeated eighth seed Denis Shapovalov of Canada 6-3 6-4 to advance through for his first ATP Tour championship match since 2017.
