Tiger premiership players sign AFL deals

The good times keep rolling for Marlion Pickett, with the AFL grand final hero locked in for next season.

Shane Edwards, who finished second two days ago in the club’s best and fairest count, also has re-signed for two seasons.

Pickett became only the sixth player in AFL history to debut in the grand final and he starred in last Saturday’s demolition of GWS.

He arrived through the mid-season draft and did not start playing in the VFL until late in the season because of finger surgery.

Pickett earned Norm Smith Medal votes for his nerveless debut and became an immediate cult figure at Punt Rd.

At 30, Edwards has earned probably his last multi-year contract and it comes on the back of an another strong season for the dual premiership player.

The midfielder only missed one game this year and was a stand-in captain when Trent Cotchin was injured, finishing second behind Dion Prestia in the club’s Jack Dyer Medal count.

But despite his continued strong form this season, the 2018 All-Australian did not score any Brownlow Medal votes.

Edwards has played 255 games for the Tigers since his 2007 debut.

“We’re so proud of both Shane and Marlion, they’ve both had unique seasons in their own right,” Richmond list manager Blair Hartley said.

“Shane has been with us on a long journey, and he continues to step up in both a performance and leadership capacity when we need him.

“Marlion’s hard work and dedication has led him to Richmond, and we’re so proud of him for grabbing his opportunity with both hands.
