Thiem becomes 5th qualifier for ATP Finals

Austria’s Dominic Thiem has become the fifth player to qualify for the elite season-ending ATP Finals in London by reaching the final of the China Open.

The 26-year-old Thiem’s 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 victory on Saturday over Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the Beijing last four earned him his fourth consecutive trip to the finals.

Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Daniil Medvedev had previously qualified for the November 10-17 showpiece in London.

Thiem, after winning his first Masters series event in Indian Wells this season, will fight for his fourth title in 2019 against Alexander Zverev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday’s China Open decider.
