THE tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis is tipped to return the Los Angeles Lakers to prominence with the $4.50 second favourites at TAB the best backed to win the 2019/2020 NBA championship.
The Lakers – who have not reached the playoffs in six seasons – have received 30 percent of the support from TAB punters to claim their first NBA title since the 2009/2010 season.
The Lakers were $9 to win this season’s NBA championship immediately following this year’s Finals and touched $2.75 once Davis was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans.
However, the Los Angeles Clippers became favourites for the 2019/2020 NBA championship on July 6 when two-time NBA champion Kawhi Leonard and Paul George joined forces.
The Clippers – currently $4.25 at TAB – were $21 on July 6 before the news broke that Leonard would leave the Toronto Raptors and George agreed to a trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The second-most popular team to secure the 2019/2020 NBA title with TAB punters is the Philadelphia 76ers ($9).
The 76ers – behind Australia’s Ben Simmons and star big man Joel Embiid – have garnered 16 percent of the money placed on the champion of the upcoming NBA season.
On July 10, one TAB punter placed $2,700 at $10 on the 76ers to win their first NBA championship since the 1982/1983 season.
The Milwaukee Bucks ($6) fell to the Toronto Raptors in last season’s Eastern Conference Finals while the Houston Rockets ($8) acquired Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the off-season.
The Golden State Warriors have won three of the last five NBA championships, but they are currently $13 hopes for this season’s title. Klay Thompson is out for the majority of this season with a knee injury and Kevin Durant departed for the Brooklyn Nets.
The reigning champion Toronto Raptors were $9 before Leonard’s defection to the Los Angeles Clippers and have drifted to $34 at TAB to win back-to-back titles.
The 2019/2020 NBA season tips off this Wednesday 11am AEDT with the Raptors ($1.36) at home to the Pelicans ($3.20) at Scotiabank Arena followed by the Clippers ($2.25) and the Lakers ($1.65) locking horns at Staples Centre from 1:30pm AEDT.
