Preview:
The Crows went into the game with a fair few of their premiership winning team missing but Anne Hatchard was the standout for them with a League record of 34 touches as they went down to Brisbane by 13 points.
Many expected Adelaide who have dominated AFLW since it started in 2017 to win easily last week even with star players such as Erin Phillips and Rhiannon Metcalfe missing but they couldn’t get over the line against a determined Lions side.
Like the other three debutant clubs – the Saints had their Moorabbin homecoming spoiled going down to the Western Bulldogs by 27 points.
The Saints put up a fight in the second half of the game but the Dogs already had their number.
There is some talent at the Saints and it is clearly going to be a development year for them like most if not all of the four new expansion teams.
Playing Adelaide on the rebound in Adelaide appears to be a daunting task, but the line of -15.5 is generous and if they Saints can apply the pressure they did in the second half of last week’s game perhaps they can give the reigning premiers a scare.
