Cameron King has retired from the NRL after a 10-year career that included spells at Cronulla, Parramatta, North Queensland and St George Illawarra.
The luckless 29-years managed just 43 games in the NRL after his debut for the Dragons in 2010 and added 28 games for UK club Featherstone Rovers in 2019.
He returned to Australia to link up with the Sharks on a one-year deal but he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in a trial match in February.
“I feel truly blessed to have had 10 years as a professional athlete but the time has come for me to announce my retirement from the NRL,” King announced on social media on Thursday.
“I’ve faced a lot of adversity in my career and I feel I never did reach my potential.
“Mentally and physically I have faced many battles but I have been so lucky to have been a part of some successful clubs that have won premierships and I’ll be forever grateful for those memories.”
Part of the Dragons’ 2010 NRL premiership-winning season, King was selected to play in the World Club Challenge the following February, scoring the match-winning try in that game against Wigan – before he left the field suffering a serious pectoral injury.
He played for the Junior Kangaroosand was selected in the Emerging NSW Blues squad.
After 17 games for the Red V over four seasons, King joined the Cowboys in late 2013 but managed just four games over two seasons with an ACL injury ending his time in Townsville.
Moving on to the Eels for the 2016 campaign, King made 22 appearances after starting the 2017 season as starting hooker.
