Injured Titan Brimson positive about 2021

Gold Coast fullback AJ Brimson doesn’t believe the foot injury which ended his State of Origin campaign will force him to miss the start of the 2021 NRL season.

Brimson suffered a Lisfranc injury late in Queensland’s game one triumph over NSW last week in Adelaide.

The 22-year-old has since departed the Maroons’ bubble and is letting the injury settle before discovering if he’ll have to undergo surgery.

“Whether I require surgery or not, it’s not going to impact round one next year,” Brimson told the Titans’ website.

“I’m hoping when I get my next scan it shows signs of stability and signs of healing so that I won’t require surgery.

“I’ve done a bit of ligament sprain damage and a little bit of bone chipping in my Lisfranc in the top of my foot.”

Brimson missed a the first half of this season with a fractured back but returned to play the Titans’ final nine games, scoring seven tries as they finished the season on a five-game winning streak.

That form and Kalyn Ponga’s absence through injury opened the door for Brimson to make his Origin debut.

While his campaign has now come to an end, Brimson said the 18-14 victory over the Blues in which the No.1 scored the Maroons’ first try will be a lifelong memory.

“I got shivers down my spine,” he said.

“You couldn’t take the smile off my face.

“My mum and her partner, who have been supportive of me throughout my whole career, and my best mate and his parents flew down to Adelaide for the week and I got to chat to them after the game and it was good to see them there.”
