Verstappen wins season-ending Abu Dhabi GP

Max Verstappen has won the season-ending Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, dominating from pole position for Red Bull.

Verstappen was untroubled after a good start and coasted to his second win of the season and 10th overall, ahead of the Mercedes duo Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton had last month clinched a record-equalling seventh world title before missing last week’s race in Bahrain after a positive test for the coronavirus.

Bottas ended the revamped season, with 17 races instead of 22 owing to the pandemic, in second place, and Verstappen was third.

Australian Daniel Ricciardo bowed out from Renault by recording the race’s fastest lap at the death as he finished seventh in the race, ending the drivers’ championship overall in fifth place.

Mercedes also clinched a record seventh straight constructors’ title, ahead of Red Bull and McLaren who snatched third place from Racing Point in the finale.
