Raiders pair charged with drink driving

Corey Harawira-Naera and Corey Horsburgh are facing possible sanction by Canberra and the NRL after being charged with drink driving in separate incidents.

Harawira-Naera was caught drink driving by ACT Police on Christmas Eve while Horsburgh was charged on January 3.

Both are awaiting their court dates.

Canberra have confirmed both incidents were immediately reported to the NRL’s integrity unit but the Raiders have been waiting for further information from police.

“The Canberra Raiders can confirm that both Corey Harawira-Naera and Corey Horsburgh were involved in separate incidents during the Christmas holiday period,” the statement read.

“Both incidents were reported directly to the NRL Integrity unit at the time and the club continues to keep them informed of any developments.

“As both issues are still pending court matters, the club will not be making further comment.”

The highly rated duo look set to face fines or even a suspension from the NRL pending the integrity unit’s findings, while the club is also likely to dish out a punishment.

It’s understood the Raiders are particularly disappointed in Harawira-Naera who was charged with high-range drink driving and came to the club last season following a previous scandal.

The 25-year-old was sacked by Canterbury last year after he was embroiled in a schoolgirl sex scandal in Port Macquarie.

Horsburgh is believed to have returned a low-range reading, but also faces sanction.

“The Canberra Raiders advised the Integrity Unit of the alleged offences and the Integrity Unit is awaiting further information from police,” an NRL spokesperson said.
