$5m All Star Mile favourite still lame

A start in the $5 million All-Star Mile for Arcadia Queen will be determined after she is reinspected by vets on race morning.

All-Star Mile favourite Arcadia Queen will require another veterinary inspection on race morning having again presented with lameness.

Racing Victoria vets said the Grant and Alana Williams-trained mare was ‘two-out-of-five’ lame on Friday after being ‘one-out-of-five’ when inspected on Thursday.

All runners in Saturday’s $5 million All-Star Mile (1600m) at The Valley have undergone inspections by RV vets which is in line with their protocols ahead of big races.

Arcadia Queen shifted a plate on Thursday and had been reshod ahead of Friday’s inspection.

The Perth mare has been a drifter in TAB markets, easing from $3.60 to $3.90 on Friday, following news she requires a further inspection on Saturday before being declared fit to start.

Probabeel sits on the second line at $4.20 with Russian Camelot the third pick at $6, firming from $7.

Last week the Williams-trained Celebrity Queen underwent a race morning veterinary inspection ahead of the Newmarket Handicap after pulling a shoe in trackwork two days before the race.

She was passed fit to run and raced in bar-plates before running 13th to Zoutori in the Group 1 sprint at Flemington.

Shout The Bar, who was ‘two-out-of-five’ lame on Thursday, was reinspected by RV vets on Friday and deemed suitable to take her place in the All-Star Mile field.

The Ballarat-trained Affair To Remember, third emergency in Saturday’s race, was also inspected on Friday, presenting with lameness and will be reinspected on Saturday.

Should Arcadia Queen be deemed unsuitable to start, the Lindsay Park-trained Fifty Stars, 12th in last week’s Australian Cup, will take her place.

A cool change is due in Melbourne on Saturday.

Marty Synan, track manager at The Valley, is expecting rain in the afternoon with up to 15mm forecast.
