The Chris Waller-trained Kiku has broken through for her first black-type success in the Carbine Club Stakes.

Group One racing beckons for Kiku in the spring but just how much further she goes this campaign is yet to be determined.

The Chris Waller-trained filly continued her form surge, racking up her third win in succession when she produced a well-timed run to claim the G3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Waller is considering giving her one more start this campaign but his major focus is longer-term.

“I reckon she is still developing and she’ll be our Epsom, lightweight horse and Golden Eagle type of horse,” Waller said.

“I don’t know about Queensland, maybe a Australasian Oaks in three weeks but she is a sister to Zoutori, who is a sprinter, so you’ve just got to question whether she’ll get beyond a mile.”

Tommy Berry took Kiku ($3.80) back from her outside draw and despite tracking wide she finished strongly to reel in The Irishman ($2.50 fav) by three-quarters of a length with Poland ($9) the same margin away third.
