An off-season sprint at Sandown may be the race for Brooklyn Heat to gain a maiden city success.

As Brooklyn Hustle battles for a maiden Group 1 win at Morphettville, her younger half-sister Brooklyn Heat will chase a maiden city win at Sandown.

Brooklyn Heat runs in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Handicap (1000m) on Saturday, an hour after Brooklyn Hustle contests the TAB Classic (1200m) in Adelaide.

Like Brooklyn Hustle, the younger sibling is prepared by Jason Warren and Dean Krongold and will be lining up for her third start on Saturday.

After a placing as an early three-year-old, Brooklyn Heat resumed from a break to win a 1000m Mornington maiden on April 4.

Warren said Saturday’s race was a big step up in grade for the filly.

“It’s come up a much stronger race than we anticipated,” Warren said.

“It’s probably less than ideal but unfortunately there’s not a lot of restricted three-year-old 1000-metre races around at the moment.

“We waited for this race and it looks like everyone else has waited for it as well.”

Warren said Brooklyn Heat does not have the same ability as the older half-sister at the same stage of their careers, but is hopeful of a city breakthrough victory.

However, Warren does have a lot of confidence in Knowles who runs in the Ladbrokes Punter Assist Handicap (1300m).

Knowles was successful over Saturday’s course and distance in February and is coming off a last start fourth over 1000m at Cranbourne on April 16.

“I think she’s a great chance,” Warren said.

“She’s won at the track, she’s won at the distance and she’s in mares’ grade.

“A lot of the others have claimed, but I don’t see her as a claiming sort of horse.

“She can do a little wrong in her races so I think having Damien Thornton on is a better fit.”
