Just two weeks after Tom Green was being spoken of as the likely winner of the AFL’s Rising Star award, TAB’s market suggests Luke Jackson has one hand on the trophy.
The Melbourne forward, who replaced Green as favourite last week, tightened into $1.40 after being a key contributor in the Demons’ win over West Coast last night. Jackson was posted $26 in TAB’s first market, was still $13 in mid-June with as much as $7 available late last month.
Green, who got as low as $1.80 after Rd 19, did not play last weekend and is out to $4. Sharing the third line of betting, at $21, are Mitch Georgiades, Errol Gulden and James Jordon.
Jackson’s Demons did their premiership chances no harm with last night’s win and tightened into $4.50 in flag betting, meaning there is just 50 cents between the top three teams in betting with Geelong and the Western Bulldogs – who both lost in Rd 21 – at $4 and $4.25 respectively.
The Eagles drifted from $1.30 to $1.75 in Top 8 betting after their loss with Essendon now odds-on ($1.90) for the first time this season, with GWS at $2.10 and Richmond $2.30.
