Jesse Ryder’s availability for the New Zealand cricket tour of England remains unclear following a meeting with national coach Mike Hesson.
The in-form batsman revealed over the weekend he will continue his self-imposed exile from the national team during England’s tour of New Zealand in February and March.
He and manager Aaron Klee met Hesson, Black Caps manager Mike Sandle and New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association chief executive Heath Mills in Wellington on Tuesday to discuss his longer-term plans.
Klee told AAP the outcome of the meeting will remain private, refusing to discuss the player’s future beyond Wellington’s domestic campaign, where the hard-hitting 28-year-old is enjoying a golden summer.
Sandle said in a statement that Ryder’s plans were “thoroughly discussed” and it was agreed that he would continue to pursue personal goals.
“New Zealand Cricket wants to continue to support Jesse and we are happy with the positive progress he has made to date,” Sandle said.
“Today’s meeting was part of ongoing communication with Jesse and we will continue to keep in touch with him and offer support and assistance.”
Ryder is available for selection on the Indian Premier League auction this weekend and is likely to be selected.
The IPL finishes in late May, overlapping with the majority of the Black Caps’ tour of England, including both Tests.
Ryder could become available for the subsequent Champions Trophy one-day tournament hosted by England in June, followed by two Twenty20 matches against the English later that month.
