The AFC West race is super-tight, with the 7-4 Chiefs keeping their nose ahead of the Chargers, Raiders and Broncos, who are all 6-5.

Kansas City’s turbulent first half of the season is starting to disappear into the rearview mirror courtesy of four straight wins before their Week 12 bye. Patrick Mahomes’ heavyweights blew out the cobwebs with a trademark 41-14 thrashing of the Raiders, before outlasting the Cowboys 19-9 with a rugged defensive display that included five sacks.

Denver have stayed in the conversation with three wins – over decent opposition in Washington, the Cowboys and Chargers – from their last four games. A rookie-heavy defence terrorised Justin Herbert in last week’s 28-13 defeat of the Chargers, while Teddy Bridgewater is battling a shin injury that forced him off late.

The Chiefs are on an 11-match winning streak against the Broncos. Last season the defending champs carved out a 43-16 victory in Denver before grinding out a 22-16 win at home. The division rivals will meet again in Week 18.

The Broncos are no pushovers, but the Chiefs have found some elusive consistency and a much-improved defence gives them a significant edge. The 9.5-point line is a sizeable one to take on, however.
