Team Snowden assembling strong Magic Millions carnival squad

Peter and Paul Snowden are assembling a strong squad for the Magic Millions carnival and stable stalwart Poetic Charmer will be given the chance to add his name to their team.

The father and son training partners have Max Lees Classic winner Russian Conquest and Wyong Magic Millions runner-up Miss Hellfire in line for the juvenile race, while King Of Sparta spearheads their arsenal for the Guineas.

Poetic Charmer earned his first foray to the Gold Coast earlier this year and finished midfield to Jonker in the Magic Millions Sprint (1200m).

Peter Snowden confirmed they are keen for a return trip, provided the seven-year-old can measure up at his next two runs, starting with the Fujitsu General Handicap (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

“He is a Magic Millions horse but he needs to have good form going up there,” Snowden said.

“We’re not going to go up there on a whim, so he will have one, maybe two runs before he goes up and he will need to win one or both to get his ticket.”

Poetic Charmer has been a grand horse for connections, winning six of his 37 starts and just shy of $500,000.

He has a solid first-up record and Snowden has given him a strong barrier trial hitout to lay the foundations for a competitive performance on Saturday.

The Snowdens’ Magic Millions team is still taking shape with Miss Hellfire to be given another chance to qualify for the Classic after pulling up well from her second to Soaring Ambition at Wyong on Wednesday.

Russian Conquest already has a win on the board courtesy of her tough performance at Newcastle’s The Hunter meeting and is likely to make her return on Boxing Day, while King Of Sparta will use the Gosford Guineas (1200m) on December 29 as a Queensland launchpad.

“He will run in the Gosford Guineas and all being well, he will go to the Gold Coast from there. He’s in good shape,” Snowden said of the three-year-old, who shares Magic Millions Guineas favouritism with Jamaea at $8.
