Troach sets her sights on the Thousand Guineas 2022

The Group 1 Thousand Guineas could be on the agenda for Troach after the Godolphin filly scored a comfortable win at Moonee Valley.

The victory in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) on Saturday was the filly’s third from eight starts, coming at her first start in Melbourne.

Providing Craig Williams the second leg of a winning double having scored on Mr Brightside earlier in the day, Troach ($4.60) scored by a length from the $3.80 favourite Lady Laguna with I’mlovin’ya ($3.90) a half-length away third.

Troach was sent to Melbourne by trainer James Cummings following her last start third in the Listed The Rosebud (1100m) at Rosehill last month.

Sean Keogh, the stable foreman for the Cummings team in Melbourne, said it was good to see the filly back up her last start performance.

“It looked like it was a strong form race going forward and while she had a good run in the race on the rail in The Rosebud, it was good to see her back it up again today,” Keogh said.

“She’s a lovely, lovely style of filly. She’s got plenty of scope, but she’s got plenty of pace too, so we’re really delighted to be able to take out a Black Type, Listed race like this.

“I’m sure the team will consider things like the Thousand Guineas going forward.”

Williams said he had to help guide Troach around the tight Moonee Valley circuit as the filly was having her first start in Melbourne.

“When you look at her in the yard, she’s a beautiful filly, she’s got good scope about her and you’ve seen what she’s done in Sydney, so it was a great move by James to find this race for her today,” Williams said.

“I’m lucky enough to get the steer, but she’s still got a little bit more growing up to do.

“I still had to help manage her having her first run left-handed under race conditions, I was still dragging her around the last turn, but I just thought she was really good and solid late.”
