Rosehill Guineas at Rosehill Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 18/3/2023

The Rosehill Guineas is the first of FIVE Group 1 feature races in Sydney on Saturday, and some of the best three-year-olds in the country are engaged.

Pericles stamped himself as the one to beat with a dominant win in Victoria last time out, but he will need to go to another level to beat home the likes of Manzoice, Elliptical and co. in the Rosehill Guineas.

You can find my complete preview and 2023 Rosehill Guineas Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 5 Units straight out #5 Pericles
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below

Rosehill Guineas – Winner

He was simply too good to ignore in the Autumn Classic, and the Rosehill Guineas looks the perfect Group 1 feature for Pericles.

Pericles enjoyed something of a meteoric rise to prominence during last year’s Spring Carnival with a couple of eye-catching efforts in black type company.

He has clearly returned a better horse this time, however, and couldn’t have been more impressive last time out.

Fitter third-up and under James McDonald this week, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Pericles

Rosehill Guineas – 2nd

If there is a horse that is over the odds in Rosehill Guineas betting (in my opinion), it’s Ausbred Rising Sun.

Ausbred Rising Sun has only made four appearances at the races since debuting, but he has recorded two wins, including an utterly dominant performance at Newcastle two starts back, before running on well to finish third behind Pericles in the Autumn Classic last time.

I don’t think that he can turn the tables on that runner this week, but I do think that the Autumn Classic is the superior formline, and I can’t wrap my head around the $21 about this bloke! (at publish).

Suggested Bet: No. 8 Ausbred Rising Sun

Rosehill Guineas – 3rd

It looks to be a case of ‘when’, not ‘if’ Elliptical will score a Group 1 victory, and he gets another chance in Saturday’s Rosehill Guineas.

Elliptical has recorded two wins and three minors from his eight career starts to fate, and he was unlucky to only just miss in both the Neds Caulfield Guineas and the Spring Champion Stakes last time in.

He returned a winner in the CS Hayes Stakes last month and didn’t enjoy the greatest of luck in the Australian Guineas last time out, but I am confident he’ll enjoy plenty of improvement for that hit-out, and the 2000m does look ideal at this point of his prep.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Elliptical

Rosehill Guineas – 4th

Williamsburg is bred to find his best over 2000m, and I think that he too can return a nice effort in the Rosehill Guineas.

By Snitzel and out of Group 1 winner Fenway, Williamsburg is yet to strike in three starts back this time, but he has improved with each, and was last seen finishing fifth behind Communist in the Randwick Guineas.

This was always going to be a far better race for him, and I am keen to see what he produces under Ryan Maloney this week.

Suggested Bet: No. 6 Williamsburg
