The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable are heading back to Flemington with two smart three-year-olds who finished one-two in their last meeting at the track.
Kaygeebee and What You Need run in the Listed Sunlight Classic (1100m) on Saturday having filled the quinella over the same course and distance on March 11.
What You Need won on that occasion to remain unbeaten following a Geelong maiden win the previous August, while it was the first defeat for Kaygeebee after wins on the Pakenham synthetic and at Moonee Valley in his first campaign.
Price and Kent Jnr did hold some pre-race concerns that What You Need was underdone ahead of his first-up win, but he charged away to record a 3-¼ length win from his stablemate.
It is a rise in grade on Saturday and Kent Jnr is a concerned about Benedetta who also holds an entry in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday.
However, Kent Jnr also knows What You Need is an exciting colt.
“An untapped colt. I think he has the potential to get to the top level,” Kent Jnr said.
“He was only 80 per cent first-up. It was a sit and sprint, and he was too good form them.
“It will be a much tougher test on Saturday with the likes of Benedetta.
“She will be tough to knock off, but it’s a race worth half-a-million dollars.
“His dad Supido was nearly unbeaten down the straight and this horse has a beautiful temperament.
“He’s a rocket and he’s come on.”
What You Need and Kaygeebee drew next to each other when they resumed, but with a bigger field on Saturday, they have drawn on opposite sides of the track.
What You Need heads the Ladbrokes market at $2.70 from Benedetta at $2.90 while Kaygeebee is a $34 chance.
