Inglis Sires at Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 1/4/2023

Thirteen of the country’s best two-year-olds will chase Group 1 glory in the Inglis Sires’ on Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick.

With Shinzo back in the paddock, the Triple Crown is off the table in 2023, but Golden Slipper performers Cylinder, Don Corleone and Empire Of Japan will take their place in the Inglis Sires’ field.

You can find my race preview and 2023 Inglis Sires’ Tips below!

Inglis Sires’ – Winner

He’s yet to turn in a poor performance, and the Inglis Sires’ probably is the perfect Group 1 race for Cylinder.

Cylinder finished second at each of his first two career starts last year and was put away with a view towards these features, returning for consecutive wins in the Silver Slipper and Todman Stakes.

He had at least a length on Don Corleone and Empire Of Japan last time out, and with that in mind, I think he can and will go one better this weekend.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Cylinder

Inglis Sires’ – 2nd

I think that the market just about has this one correct, and Don Corleone can run second in the Inglis Sires’.

Don Corleone stamped himself as one to watch with an eye-catching win on debut here at Randwick back in January, before finishing fourth in the Pierro Plate.

Since then, he has continued to improve noticeably, running second in the Blue Diamond before filling the minors in the Slipper.

He steps out this week in peak order and wouldn’t look out of place in the Inglis Sires’ winner’s stall either.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Don Corleone

Inglis Sires’ – 3rd

I did mention in my Slipper preview that I thought Empire Of Japan was overs at around the $41 mark, and with that proving to be true, I think he can run another belter in the Inglis Sires’.

Empire Of Japan won the Breeders’ Plate here on debut back in October, and he wasn’t disgraced when sixth in the Magic Millions Classic at just his third career start.

He has drawn widely into the Inglis Sires’ field, but the booking of Zac Purton does add plenty of confidence to his chances.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Empire Of Japan

Inglis Sires’ – 4th

Brave Mead brings a different formline into the Inglis Sires’ and in my opinion, he looks to be the best of the rest.

The Brave Smash colt showed promise at the trials prior to debuting, and he flashed late to finish third, beaten less than half a length at Pakenham in February.

He is since unbeaten, breaking his maiden before taking out last week’s St Albans Stakes at The Valley by nearly three lengths.

This is another sizeable rise in class, but he has plenty of upside and can return another competitive performance.

Suggested Bet: No. 6 Brave Mead
