Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide Power Preview
Two sides desperate to return to the winner’s column meet in Sydney on Saturday night for the first time since 2018.
Much like they were in the Grand Final, the Swans were found out last week in another thumping at the MCG, this time at the hands of the Demons.
John Longmire’s side simply folded in the third quarter trailing by a few goals, while some question marks are also starting to swirl around Buddy Franklin and his place in the forward line.
Port Adelaide, on the other hand, suffered a second-straight defeat to the rival Crows, a disappointing effort after silencing plenty of critics in Round 1 with a stirring win over the Lions.
The Power basically played the final term in their back half, but they also committed some unforgivable mistakes when it came to letting Izak Rankine roam free late in the game.
If you’re Sydney, two cheap wins over the Suns and Hawthorn doesn’t look so good on paper now, while you have to wonder if Port was simply a one-hit wonder winning the season-opener convincingly.
As far as recent history goes, the Power have won six in a row over Sydney dating back to 2017, but after looking lost at times in the back-half last week, I really wonder how Port will handle Sydney’s ferocious forward line.
The fact the Power haven’t played at the SCG since 2018 only complicates matters, not to mention Sydney’s outstanding 6-1 record on the back of a loss over the last 12 months.
If Longmire can come up with the right strategy up forward, I think the Swans might be one of the best bets of the week.
