Such is the competitive nature of the competition, the Bombers now find themselves on the outside of the eight looking in following a pair of losses to Collingwood and Geelong.

To their credit, Brad Scott’s side has lost no admirers coming up short to two genuine heavyweights, and we should learn even more about their makeup when they travel to Adelaide on Sunday to face the Power.

Port has stamped itself as a serious contender with four straight wins to their name. Last week’s victory over St Kilda was another coaching masterclass from Ken Hinkley, the Power basically beating the Saints at their own game thanks to clutch performances Jason Horne-Francis and Jeremy Finlayson.

The Power playing on nine days of rest is also a huge advantage, not to mention Jayden Laverde still being out for the Dons.

Laverde’s absence made life all too easy for Tom Hawkins last week, the Bombers lacking their usual toughness down back when giving up a career-high eight goals to the big man.

Port doesn’t boast the same ferocity up forward, but they are no stranger to kicking a score against the Bombers, winning 146-62 when they met last year.

Combine that with Port’s outstanding pressure and the fact they rank top three in tackles and clearances, and the Power look a safe enough bet at home.
