Fresh Resortman to end campaign on a high in Belmont Sprint 2023

Bunbury trainer Michael Lane says Resortman is primed to end his campaign on a high in Saturday’s Group 3 Furphy Belmont Sprint (1400m).

Michael Lane says bypassing the Northam Stakes (1300m) and the 28 day gap between The Quokka (1200m) is critical to Resortman’s prospects.

“It definitely wouldn’t have worked if he went to Northam, I don’t reckon, no way,” Lane said on Tabradio.

“It’s not going to do him any harm, that’s for sure.

“I had him as well as I could possibly have him for The Quokka.

“I thought bouncing out of the Quokka was going to be a big ask.

“I’ve given him a quiet week and he’s bounced into this.

“I think he is going great and will run a great race.

“I can’t be much happier with him and we’ve done the right thing.”

Resortman goes into the Belmont Sprint running competitive races in the Roma Cup (1100m) and The Quokka.

The Helmet six-year-old has drawn barrier one and will be in the hands of champion jockey, Paul Harvey.

He can edge clear as the most successful rider of the Belmont Sprint after wins aboard Universal Ruler (2009), Marasco (2008) and Modem (2004).

Harvey currently shares the record with Pat Carbery and Dan Staeck.

Tabtouch has Resortman quoted as a $7.50 chance.

Stablemate Rusty Dreams is much shorter in the Glenroy Chaff Plate (1400m).

The Universal Ruler filly went back-to-back to impressively kick off her career before suffering defeat for the first time three weeks ago.

She faded to third behind Stephen Wolfe’s progressive gelding Catch These Hands after going hard out in front.

Lane admitted it was the wrong race choice for Rusty Dreams.

“I was never going to go there and for some reason I went,” Lane said.

“To her credit she came home and bounced out of it really well.

“She’s a tough little filly and we’re happy with her going into the race.”

Back to 1400m and with a 1.5kg weight swing on Catch These Hands, Rusty Dreams is the popular $2.05 favourite.

Catch These Hands, dropping back in distance, is next at $3.80 with betr.

Lane said he also expects Flash Ducati in race four and Trade War in race seven to be each way chances.
