A big crowd will be at hand on Sunday night in what can only be described as a ‘line in the sand’ game for both clubs.

Carlton’s miserable season continued last week with another dismal loss to the Dees, Michael Voss’ side amassing a measly 44 points in a performance that has basically lit the blowtorch on his coaching spot.

Essendon, meanwhile, prevailed by six against a feisty North Melbourne outfit under the roof at Marvel, Kyle Langford kicking a handy four-goal bag to go with some late heroics from Massimo D’ambrosio.

The pressure surrounding the Blues on and off the field is immense, and with each game seeming bigger and more important each week, it’s difficult to feel confident in them suddenly responding.

Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow are horribly out of form, while Patrick Cripps looks a shell of the Brownlow winner we saw a season ago.

For the Dons, this is a game that could define their season. Brad Scott’s side occupies a spot in the eight already, but with a favourable run home, they could really cement their spot with the bottom half of the eight looking extremely vulnerable.

Carlton has a long list of problems all over the ground, but their midfield could be exposed massively in this one. The Bombers have been one of the best teams at finding targets by foot, while they also dispose of the ball very effectively.

With Peter Wright likely back in the forward line and the likes of Mason Redman and Zach Merrett enjoying career-best seasons, there is simply too much for the Blues to account for.
