For a six-year-old mare with 10 wins from 31 starts and over $1.3 million in prize money, it seems surprising that Foxy Frida has never raced in Sydney and has only started in two Group One races, such is Andrew Noblet’s shrewd placement.

Foxy Frida has managed to win four Inglis Bracelet races at Flemington and Bendigo, a Magic Millions National Classic at Eagle Farm and win at Group 3 level at Morphettville, but Saturday’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill presents as a chance to gain valuable Group One form on her breeding page.

“That’s the plan, even just to place in a race like that would be good for her but she’s going really well, couldn’t be happier with her and hopefully we get a nice draw for her,” Noblet said.

Foxy Frida ran well in her first Group One attempt, last year’s Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm when beaten 1.5 lengths in sixth and Noblet is hoping Saturday’s weight conditions, for which his mare has been assigned 54.5kg, can see her in the finish.

“She’s going really well. Worked super (Monday) morning and we’ll go up there and see how we go. She’s been used to carrying the set weights and penalties, 58 and a half or something, she gets a nice weight drop there and she might need it,” Noblet said.

Foxy Frida resumed in the Group 3 Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington and hit the line well for a narrow fourth to the in-form Revolutionary Miss, who is another likely Coolmore Classic runner, and Noblet says this race was one of many options for her, with a possible return to Adelaide on the cards thereafter.

“It’s always a race we were going to look at providing she was going well enough… maybe (Adelaide), we’ll see how she goes up there and see how she pulls up,” Noblet said.

Regardless as to where her preparation takes her, Noblet is confident Foxy Frida has plenty of racing left in her and doesn’t think she’s giving any indication of looking for the breeding barn.

“No, not at all, she’s going even better than she was last time so it’s fantastic.”

Regular jockey Billy Egan will make the trip to Sydney to ride Foxy Frida, who is a $34 chance (all-in) for the Coolmore Classic.
